Poe Appreciation Day Blog Hop: Tag Book

Awhile back, I made a tag book dedicated to Poe's short stories. I had plans for another one about his poems. I'm finally getting back to that idea.
So here's the beginnings of it and I hope to share it in it's completion in Part 2 over the coming weekend. In time to close out this fabulous blog hop.

Poems:  The first two tags of the "book". My cover is Poe's portrait with some buttons and liquid pearls. I haven't added anything to the back of this tag but I think I may write in a quote.

The Raven:  This tag is dedicated to the masterful work called, "The Raven". The bird is from Blog Hop sponsor Lost Coast Designs and is one of my favorite images to pair with Poe. I embossed it in silver on black cardstock. The bird was added to a stenciled tag. The faint pair of eyes is a stamp I've had in my stash for a long time...some of the first unmounted rubber stamps I owned. (I got them at a stamp show and think they were LCD but am not sure.)

I wanted to make something "different" for the Raven. I wanted it to be more airy and less dark but still subdued and solemn. I rather like the way it turned out.

Okay so here's my card:

 Vintage Besties:  I wasn't sure what kind of greeting would be appropriate for this card so I just left it blank, inside and out. I really like a vintage look and I have so much paper that relays it that I just started there. This is just a lot of scraps with an impressive embellishment. (If I do say so myself!)

 

I made this little cameo embellishment. My mom bought me a little stamp set at JoAnn's from the clearance bin. It had an oval and two female silhouettes. I stamped them in black Archival Ink (Ranger) and then colored the back ground with Distress marker (Dried Marigold, also Ranger). It looked good but it needed more. I added a ring of Distress marker, Rusty Hinge around the outside then added on my pearls. I cut it out and added Glossy Accents (Ranger) to cover the middle. (So it looks like an epoxy covering.) I love the way it turned out!

 

 I may have cheated just a little on the challenge. The only "distress technique" I used was to ink the edges of the card and the "photo" with Walnut stain Distress ink.

But this card is a definate stepping stone for me. I can play with the papers and add more embellishment and make several versions of this card in a jiffy!

Red Carpet Studios Challenge #75: Pitch Perfect

Another Red Carpet Studios Challenge has begun!
This time the theme is based on the movie, Pitch Perfect. It's not about baseball...it's about a musical group trying to make it to the championship. So the theme is MUSIC!

Vintage Musician: Completely inspired by this vintage photo of a lovely lady looking quite bored with a violin in her lap. Her expression seems to say, "yea, so, I play the violin" like it's no big deal. For those like me who have no musical inclination past singing to ourselves in the car, playing an instrument is always a big deal.

The card came together as a collage from the photo as I searched my stash for more musical items. I came up with a violin and a Victrola. The sheet music was a scrap I had lying about and the words seemed just perfect for the photo print. "never...a waste of time"

I inked up some doilies to place behind it to give it a touch of texture and some copper details to make it pop.
