This year I decided to jump on the Tim Holtz bandwagon and do up a framed piece using his ephemera collections. I had purchased a framed panel but wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Upon pulling out some old die-cuts, I found a gate or fence. I thought of a garden and that led me down the rabbit hole.
The Witch's Garden: The panel was primed with gesso then painted to look like a twilight sky. I figured a witch would have super large flowers and all manner of strange insects in her garden. I didn't have room for too many bugs but I did decide to make the garden a bit more Halloween-ish by adding in some Bat-terflies. I liked them so much that I decided to make a sign pointing them out.
The "witch" is from the Halloween paper dolls collections and all the flowers are from the Botanical ephemera set. The "batterflies" are half butterfly, half bat. The bat was another die-cut from the stash and the butterfly came with the flowers.
I painted the frame in black then went over the highlights with Inka gold. I liked the look of it so I mirrored the gold highlights in the garden gate which was a die-cut I painted black.
Hope you enjoyed today's post! Please come back every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday this month for more Halloween inspired projects. Everything from mixed-media canvases to ATCs to Tags and even a few 3-D works. There may even be a party for my birthday!
