No one should.</p><p>But I do have a layout to share from the Color Palette Journal. I randomly selected a palette from my Pinterest board and will select another when this is posted. I work in a small Dylusions journal and my main mediums are ink and paper. This journal focuses mostly on rubber stamping and collage.</p><p>Here's the Autumn Feast color palette:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pBhBBA_6nQk/YQM6ha9r1EI/AAAAAAAAG3A/GXpg1LE8hK8DrU9xGiruovrmubB7bLEGACLcBGAsYHQ/Thanksgiving.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="452" height="283" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pBhBBA_6nQk/YQM6ha9r1EI/AAAAAAAAG3A/GXpg1LE8hK8DrU9xGiruovrmubB7bLEGACLcBGAsYHQ/w320-h283/Thanksgiving.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I didn't want to go the Autumn route but that's where I ended up because I just love Autumn!<p></p><p>Here's what I made:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-58OSaXytWgw/YQM7Js4vTzI/AAAAAAAAG3I/gDrcIwFuTVIbrexSDpgGDkiVKoZ4WLfRgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210728_193720_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1411" data-original-width="2048" height="275" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-58OSaXytWgw/YQM7Js4vTzI/AAAAAAAAG3I/gDrcIwFuTVIbrexSDpgGDkiVKoZ4WLfRgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h275/20210728_193720_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nsxxMlpCiww/YQM7J1m9odI/AAAAAAAAG3Q/gd_jmy0QVlg0CGgRxjz9Xcw67IPngOnFgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210728_193728_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nsxxMlpCiww/YQM7J1m9odI/AAAAAAAAG3Q/gd_jmy0QVlg0CGgRxjz9Xcw67IPngOnFgCLcBGAsYHQ/w240-h320/20210728_193728_HDR.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nN8NGxho2e4/YQM7J3RVEnI/AAAAAAAAG3M/zlz4_N8-KhwafSUfvjkmgSZv5Ph9sf2OgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210728_193734_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1660" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nN8NGxho2e4/YQM7J3RVEnI/AAAAAAAAG3M/zlz4_N8-KhwafSUfvjkmgSZv5Ph9sf2OgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210728_193734_HDR.jpg" width="259" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8Oz9LSF9lM/YQM7K2bLpsI/AAAAAAAAG3U/6G4xJpZb3-IWsOB0CmS_QsxROO6oZ2V8QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210728_193741_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z8Oz9LSF9lM/YQM7K2bLpsI/AAAAAAAAG3U/6G4xJpZb3-IWsOB0CmS_QsxROO6oZ2V8QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210728_193741_HDR.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>I decided to make the leaves in the two shades of brown and use the colors in the background. I used a stencil set I hadn't used...ever. It's simple, faintly familiar, and just what I wanted: something to get the mojo flowing. As with many of the art journal pages I've shared on this blog, their main purpose is to spur my creativity and just settle my anxious mind. </p><p>On to the next...</p><p>-Wy</p><p>oh, and yes...I have been contemplating this year's Halloween projects. I await a little inspiration from Tim Holtz in August but I have begun to think on some things that I'd like to get done that I have left over from previous years. Stay tuned. It's a bunch of voice actors playing D&D. It doesn't sound like much of a show but it is, even if you don't know anything about D&D. It's a good story telling time.</p><p>Anyway, they recently released a new game and the promo that goes with it just stuck in my head as an earworm. (as good promotions will) So I decided to make an art journal spread about it. I'm pretty happy with it even though the song is still stuck in my head. (if you want the song stuck in yours, too, you can find it <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7TN0ZRPthM&list=WL&index=19" target="_blank">HERE</a>.)</p><p>I did another video scan over of the spread since it's so large. It's uploaded to YouTube so I can embed it here. But I've got some still photos below that. This spread is done with mostly spray inks but there is some acrylic paint in there. This is in a large Dylusions journal, the flip style that is landscape, mostly. I mainly was ripping pages out of this to use as single sheets but now I'm just trying to do up the journal as I don't really like this long landscape format. <i>(I should have just ripped it ALL apart but I already had done some pages so....) </i></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pX1wNBwJDcM" width="320" youtube-src-id="pX1wNBwJDcM"></iframe></div><p></p><p><br /></p><p><i><br /></i></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0JBzp_4b1R8/YLL_bfp6J8I/AAAAAAAAGxs/tv7Akw_0YLY93d7mQTURZ52IZ0XpCIXzwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210529_170342_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1184" data-original-width="2048" height="231" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0JBzp_4b1R8/YLL_bfp6J8I/AAAAAAAAGxs/tv7Akw_0YLY93d7mQTURZ52IZ0XpCIXzwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h231/20210529_170342_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zuHN8PKkVTc/YLL_bsku6FI/AAAAAAAAGxw/JV07XJ96BSgZDsO_bUOo-U9uJIgTaVl9QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210529_170350_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1194" data-original-width="2048" height="234" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zuHN8PKkVTc/YLL_bsku6FI/AAAAAAAAGxw/JV07XJ96BSgZDsO_bUOo-U9uJIgTaVl9QCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h234/20210529_170350_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vkm4EbMOp8s/YLL_bwl9T1I/AAAAAAAAGx0/s_NFvObiwkgqUkkTNLA2na_LApjnI6StgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210529_170410_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1333" data-original-width="2048" height="260" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vkm4EbMOp8s/YLL_bwl9T1I/AAAAAAAAGx0/s_NFvObiwkgqUkkTNLA2na_LApjnI6StgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h260/20210529_170410_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ES8MbUXkFQ/YLL_co7FEDI/AAAAAAAAGx4/H7W4xz_JGF0iZvzwukgg3vCgXgdpHDscgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210529_170428_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1238" data-original-width="2048" height="241" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ES8MbUXkFQ/YLL_co7FEDI/AAAAAAAAGx4/H7W4xz_JGF0iZvzwukgg3vCgXgdpHDscgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h241/20210529_170428_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--dlfLCP7uiM/YLL_c1saOPI/AAAAAAAAGx8/Fm1s5obxM1MhGO0k0pYPLpByvv3S_dWWwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2669/20210529_170451_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1178" data-original-width="2669" height="282" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--dlfLCP7uiM/YLL_c1saOPI/AAAAAAAAGx8/Fm1s5obxM1MhGO0k0pYPLpByvv3S_dWWwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h282/20210529_170451_HDR.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kMg8JHy-n3M/YLL_3vyA1mI/AAAAAAAAGyM/Um-sqPpKmp8mUEGcLOouMxVxOkavTA0dACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210529_170647_HDR.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1916" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kMg8JHy-n3M/YLL_3vyA1mI/AAAAAAAAGyM/Um-sqPpKmp8mUEGcLOouMxVxOkavTA0dACLcBGAsYHQ/w374-h400/20210529_170647_HDR.jpg" width="374" /></a></div><br />Have a great weekend!<p></p><p>-Wy</p>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-86938195107943902272021-05-18T21:20:00.004-04:002021-05-18T21:20:52.394-04:00The Color Palette Journal: Red or Pink?<p> I finished another spread in the Color Palette Journal. I will be randomly selecting the next one from my Pinterest Board.</p><p>My main problem with this palette was the dark red/pink/coral color. I couldn't decide what color it actually was. I thought, at first, a dark coral...more orange than red. But when placed next to the pink, it appeared more like red or a dark pink. I mention this because these are usually the hang-ups that prevent me from getting a layout done in good time. I begin to fixate on finding the "perfect" match and then I get nothing accomplished. I often forget that I'm the one setting the rules, so I can be the one to break them!</p><p>So here's what I made. It's simple and straight forward mostly for the reason mentioned above. I wanted to focus on the water droplets in this photo but completely forgot about that aspect in my quest for the perfect color. </p><p>Here's the Color Palette that I had selected:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WDphblRTVhQ/YKRmG9n4b7I/AAAAAAAAGw8/dRZyR7yuzr4oeNVS5JuP46MaMRxjTc4QwCLcBGAsYHQ/waterdrop%2Bflowr.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="558" data-original-width="464" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WDphblRTVhQ/YKRmG9n4b7I/AAAAAAAAGw8/dRZyR7yuzr4oeNVS5JuP46MaMRxjTc4QwCLcBGAsYHQ/w334-h400/waterdrop%2Bflowr.jpg" width="334" /></a></div><br />Here is my journal page:<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mB1r1A3jk04/YKRmpg58KSI/AAAAAAAAGxM/7O6lF0ZwHzg9KWILfh-4ZaZbA7S1vimCACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210516_133714.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mB1r1A3jk04/YKRmpg58KSI/AAAAAAAAGxM/7O6lF0ZwHzg9KWILfh-4ZaZbA7S1vimCACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210516_133714.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJ_Zp9LOjzc/YKRmpu22hCI/AAAAAAAAGxI/_XiLciG6tlAt6Mky0AHtGzE5tU2v2TMXwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210516_133807.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJ_Zp9LOjzc/YKRmpu22hCI/AAAAAAAAGxI/_XiLciG6tlAt6Mky0AHtGzE5tU2v2TMXwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210516_133807.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NoM9Y3Ki-6o/YKRmpatvkSI/AAAAAAAAGxE/eu2Y1zWmR5sc4GXTsPBu0h1lV5WbewdTgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/IMG_20210516_134322_897.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1666" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NoM9Y3Ki-6o/YKRmpatvkSI/AAAAAAAAGxE/eu2Y1zWmR5sc4GXTsPBu0h1lV5WbewdTgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/IMG_20210516_134322_897.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Despite my color confusion, I had a great time making the spread. The red color is a neon shade that I thought would look more pinkish. But I still like it and it made me happy. It gave me a chance to use up some scraps and play with some newer supplies in my stash. (Karin Markers and neon ink pads)<div><br /></div><div>On to the next...</div><div><br /></div><div>-Wy</div>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-72362701000386640922021-04-23T00:30:00.001-04:002021-04-23T00:30:00.269-04:00The Color Palette Journal: Fabric or Feathers?<p> The random palette selected this time had a photo that was difficult to say what it was exactly. At first, I thought it was fabric but on closer inspection, it might be feathers. In any case, I took neither of these to heart.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sC5pJV55C_U/YHzniE7HmWI/AAAAAAAAGu4/hFqt-qSRIiQhVisITCXq_zOmqvM8AvKiACLcBGAsYHQ/feb3b5a1afa6baf0b7d313bc27438fff%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="458" data-original-width="400" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sC5pJV55C_U/YHzniE7HmWI/AAAAAAAAGu4/hFqt-qSRIiQhVisITCXq_zOmqvM8AvKiACLcBGAsYHQ/w350-h400/feb3b5a1afa6baf0b7d313bc27438fff%25281%2529.jpg" width="350" /></a></div><p><br /></p>This palette is difficult for me as many of these colors are ones that I rarely, if ever, use. Reddish purples aren't my faves and the dusty colors aren't in my wheelhouse. I managed to scrounge together some ink pads and markers that came close to this palette and I just did a simple watercolor background. <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0a_aTGucz7A/YHzoh8Qp4iI/AAAAAAAAGvE/Qub5itmoE3gKYsmriX31gIrbq9-7Uve9gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210418_154247.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0a_aTGucz7A/YHzoh8Qp4iI/AAAAAAAAGvE/Qub5itmoE3gKYsmriX31gIrbq9-7Uve9gCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210418_154247.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-30dP77RAGEc/YHzohoRHa4I/AAAAAAAAGvA/JRDGADVNAQwGaFtauIAA6PxAPdZoFRFOACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210418_154251.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-30dP77RAGEc/YHzohoRHa4I/AAAAAAAAGvA/JRDGADVNAQwGaFtauIAA6PxAPdZoFRFOACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210418_154251.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DRg9SOeK1Yo/YHzohwmDJXI/AAAAAAAAGvI/ACwvvfnQ1lk27SAlPaBN0LWMlWpJ7djIwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210418_154257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DRg9SOeK1Yo/YHzohwmDJXI/AAAAAAAAGvI/ACwvvfnQ1lk27SAlPaBN0LWMlWpJ7djIwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/20210418_154257.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>The completed pages aren't any masterpiece, but I like the final outcome. From a file folder stuffed with patterned papers, I've used up my larger scraps. But what to do with the smaller or odd-shaped bits?</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stN-xWQMsFk/YHOHhNDNUdI/AAAAAAAAGsc/mSUBVFPbg1kPXljL5UJJ82XYhdfWROy0ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-stN-xWQMsFk/YHOHhNDNUdI/AAAAAAAAGsc/mSUBVFPbg1kPXljL5UJJ82XYhdfWROy0ACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210311_185619.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><p>Here's where it gets interesting. I am not the originator of this method. I read about this in a magazine article years ago and it was called The Motherboard. If you want to use up a lot of scrap bits all at one go, this is the method I highly recommend. And I've recently discovered a way to jazz it up a bit. But first, the original method.</p><p>A Motherboard is just a collage of paper. I used to make them in large sizes (like 8.5 X 11) and cut them down to card fronts. But I've changed my method as it's easier for me to work in the card front size from the beginning and I don't have to worry about cutting through multiple layers of paper with my trimmer. </p><p>So here's how its done: cut a piece of paper/cardstock to A2 size. This is your base. Add a selection of paper pieces to the base with adhesive. I have found that I have lots of long rectangles and square shapes in my scrap pile. I like to make stripe backgrounds with these. Just cover the whole base and voila, a background ready to attach to a card base.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6R6IFwD8j34/YHOIrriuUqI/AAAAAAAAGso/S8mCXctLNyMzQftfu2HjfeiXi0SvTHswwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6R6IFwD8j34/YHOIrriuUqI/AAAAAAAAGso/S8mCXctLNyMzQftfu2HjfeiXi0SvTHswwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185628.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2NyaemdLPO4/YHOIrgc8J6I/AAAAAAAAGsk/xwMBLXTUzlUhNuS7zuEyj913Z_EL6TwhwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185639.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2NyaemdLPO4/YHOIrgc8J6I/AAAAAAAAGsk/xwMBLXTUzlUhNuS7zuEyj913Z_EL6TwhwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185639.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>Wanna know how to make this even easier? Use sticker paper or an adhesive sheet as your base. You know those sheets of label paper that you can run though a printer? THOSE are awesome. Just cut them up to base size (or just use the whole sheet and then cut it down), remove the backing to expose the "sticky" side, and add your scraps to it. I like to just hang the scrap paper over the edge of the base and trim it off with scissors. That way, I don't have to get frustrated trying to line up an edge. It's all scraps anyway!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FqNMX67_4f8/YHOJGURtW5I/AAAAAAAAGs0/lds6uJzeQlks9iinSb762e37aOjOqapVACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185715.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FqNMX67_4f8/YHOJGURtW5I/AAAAAAAAGs0/lds6uJzeQlks9iinSb762e37aOjOqapVACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185715.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0aMOJT9m9Qo/YHOJGT25VxI/AAAAAAAAGs4/EXixSm7Kuu4JRbnWRVx2bScO-znIpmIwQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0aMOJT9m9Qo/YHOJGT25VxI/AAAAAAAAGs4/EXixSm7Kuu4JRbnWRVx2bScO-znIpmIwQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185800.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>Wanna jazz this up? Make it look a little more cohesive? When you use the sticker paper, leave gaps between your pieces where the adhesive is still exposed. In those gaps, you can make a little magic. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-01mgafmzAi8/YHOJgfJ0akI/AAAAAAAAGtE/QFcjAAN_bxIcKVPZJdscQMqyYs5K6UzjgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185909.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-01mgafmzAi8/YHOJgfJ0akI/AAAAAAAAGtE/QFcjAAN_bxIcKVPZJdscQMqyYs5K6UzjgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185909.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JIcrJeFyDiw/YHOJgd2dMfI/AAAAAAAAGtI/5CHWOX4B_3otrA88lKLhHS1xtrtIxq8HwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185915.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JIcrJeFyDiw/YHOJgd2dMfI/AAAAAAAAGtI/5CHWOX4B_3otrA88lKLhHS1xtrtIxq8HwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185915.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>One thing you can do is add embossing powder to the sticky gaps between your papers. Once heated and melted, you get a glossy layer in your background. Just a reminder that embossing powders come in many forms and not all are great at sticking to the back of a sticker. But if you like this textured look as shown in the photos, it's pretty easy to do. If you prefer a smoother look, you'd have to use a very fine embossing powder or apply layers of embossing powder. That is not so easy as you'd have to apply an embossing ink over only certain areas. I like the textured look. (Though, I didn't try it, you could also apply very fine glitter in this space and burnish it in. Not sure if it would stay attached and I'm not a glitter girl.)</p><p>Or you can make it even easier (but no less messy) by adding foil to the sticky parts. I tried this a couple ways and here's what I discovered.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JEpOqMPk2mc/YHOLiztt_qI/AAAAAAAAGtQ/UlD9T2xUcTgXRjOYBgkM5DG-xpHOfB0JACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185858.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JEpOqMPk2mc/YHOLiztt_qI/AAAAAAAAGtQ/UlD9T2xUcTgXRjOYBgkM5DG-xpHOfB0JACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210311_185858.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>If you want to use those foiling sheets, like Deco Foil, that run through a laminator, it might work. I tried that. However, I discovered that because some of my scraps were more heavy-weight papers, the thickness prevented those foils from adhering everywhere. I couldn't get the foil in contact with the adhesive on the paper without having gaps. Those gaps, of course, would then stay sticky. If you had larger open areas, those types of products will work. For my applications, they didn't. As you can see from the photos, I wanted the foiling to simply fill in the gaps. (I will also mention here, that I did not try running it through a die cutting machine. It may be enough pressure to make the foil adhere without heat. In this method, I am not using a laminator to apply the foil: I'm relying on the adhesive, which is not heat stable.)<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WRxRuFdl5sc/YHOMpn-8jPI/AAAAAAAAGtY/_qwLv0GCVdAgqGe4-tHb5djav75Rno_hACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185814.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WRxRuFdl5sc/YHOMpn-8jPI/AAAAAAAAGtY/_qwLv0GCVdAgqGe4-tHb5djav75Rno_hACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185814.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YUiyrk1Q0xQ/YHOMptB-UmI/AAAAAAAAGtc/xTCbCLbZKG8wqYno1y_7VidpZg0OJR6TACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185826.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YUiyrk1Q0xQ/YHOMptB-UmI/AAAAAAAAGtc/xTCbCLbZKG8wqYno1y_7VidpZg0OJR6TACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210311_185826.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div>To fill in the small areas, I used a product called Mega Flake. (Cosmic Shimmer makes a product called Gilding Flakes. Same thing.) There are several products like this on the market and it's not anything new. It used to be called "gold leafing". This product is a jar of very thin, metal flakes. Imagine a very thin piece of aluminum foil chopped up like a salad except you have a mixture of metals like gold, copper, and silver. These flakes can then be applied to a sticky surface (some have a special glue that remains tacky when dry) and burnished into the surface. This type of product works sooooo goooood for this application.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEyqlfGS8_Y/YHOO1JJs_4I/AAAAAAAAGts/SuFxu5AXJEUZtyJ2w2nxBfs5aOlHVDkygCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEyqlfGS8_Y/YHOO1JJs_4I/AAAAAAAAGts/SuFxu5AXJEUZtyJ2w2nxBfs5aOlHVDkygCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185839.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEBuPIyTLXI/YHOO1DMQGwI/AAAAAAAAGto/1U31V10byBgtR_tViAIww5YjrIVQekmOACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185847_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iEBuPIyTLXI/YHOO1DMQGwI/AAAAAAAAGto/1U31V10byBgtR_tViAIww5YjrIVQekmOACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210311_185847_HDR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>So I used a sticker label sheet cut down to the size of a card front. Exposed the adhesive. Laid down all my paper scraps and applied the flakes to what was left sticky. These flakes are very light and full of static so be prepared for a mess as bad as a 4 year old with glitter in a sprinkle jar. But the results are worth it. I would recommend working on a bare, hard surface that is easy to wipe off because the little bits of flake will become glitter and get everywhere. (I personally worked on my floor. My floor is covered with vinyl tiling and it was a simple matter of sweeping up when I was finished.) Be sure to follow the directions that the product provides. It requires a little burnishing and some buffing. Mega flake and the Gilding Flakes come in mixtures of colors and these flakes provide a more mottled look as seen in this last photo. Heads up: Flakes of this nature are also less shiny than the foil sheets. Just a FYI.<div>Also, you can use the two products together. Just use the foil sheet first, then add the flakes to fill in any gaps the sheet leaves behind. This will also give you a bit of a mottled interesting look.<br /><div><br /></div><div>I didn't count how many backgrounds I got from my scrap pile but I had a large stack on my desk when I was done. I'm still working through finishing some of them but next post I'll try to remember to share how I finished these.</div><div><br /></div><div>-Wy</div><div>PS: Here's what those "flakes" look like.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tvcL7qEv4qI/YHOSRSW0xFI/AAAAAAAAGt4/Tb8ThC8N46oRRNEFvTj51QclEphl99E0ACLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="150" data-original-width="150" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tvcL7qEv4qI/YHOSRSW0xFI/AAAAAAAAGt4/Tb8ThC8N46oRRNEFvTj51QclEphl99E0ACLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="240" /></a></div><br /><br /></div></div>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-13742447451199989372021-04-10T19:47:00.001-04:002021-04-10T19:47:42.938-04:00The Scrap Stash Project<p> I don't know a paper crafter that doesn't keep their small paper scraps. Some keep them for the duration of a project and some keep them for years (or decades). I keep them but, for the last few years, I have been good about using them. Once the pile gets to the point that I can no longer find things in it quickly, I pull it all out and use it. If I can't use it then, I pitch it. (Yup, you heard me; pitch it!)</p><p>I'm dedicating this post to how I managed to use up a pile of scraps and the things I made with it. I hope some of this might help you conquer your scrap stash. I'll probably have a couple posts regarding this ongoing project so stay tuned.</p><p>First, I pull out all the paper scraps. I sort them by color. I put them into rainbow order and put patterned papers in with the color that predominates. (If it's pretty equal, I'll just put them into the color family with which I would pair it.) As I am doing that, I am pitching any paper that is too small or is looking a little rough around the edges.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p4ACL4qxzsc/YFlalq-DvII/AAAAAAAAGqE/85_anYa0gmkzbk9FXuFlJcUX9Pj3vP2swCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185514.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p4ACL4qxzsc/YFlalq-DvII/AAAAAAAAGqE/85_anYa0gmkzbk9FXuFlJcUX9Pj3vP2swCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185514.jpg" /></a></div><p>Any white or black (or sometimes ivory) cardstock is kept separate. I put these scraps into another pile. I use these scraps to stamp sentiments on for my cards or if the pieces are large enough, I'll also stamp images to be colored and die cut. I'll also use them as bases for ATCs, ATC Coins, and book marks. Colored cardstock scraps I am keeping to die cut as I recently invested in a die cutting machine. </p><p>Second, for each color family, I sort the stack by size. Larger pieces may be big enough to be a A2 size background or they may be a good mat for a focal image. This is where I'll usually begin. It's easy. I start matching background paper to card bases and I assemble them right then and there. Do I have a finished product? No. What I have is a start. When I have a background all ready to go, all I have to add is an image and a sentiment or word, perhaps. I find my cards appear more cohesive when I have the background all selected as I can color a stamped image to match the colors of the card base.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C2-Gqiqw7uI/YFlb3BmoYzI/AAAAAAAAGqo/Aqs1kc48V3kso7sdMuH4nhAQZmjxcW-PQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185203.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C2-Gqiqw7uI/YFlb3BmoYzI/AAAAAAAAGqo/Aqs1kc48V3kso7sdMuH4nhAQZmjxcW-PQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185203.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VWJBmK4r5Wo/YFlb29vMSmI/AAAAAAAAGqg/3pAiDc3ppXEC6li3CJqeITXAOnTiucbjwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185244.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VWJBmK4r5Wo/YFlb29vMSmI/AAAAAAAAGqg/3pAiDc3ppXEC6li3CJqeITXAOnTiucbjwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185244.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--PqS7nQ9dxU/YFlb3AJ_07I/AAAAAAAAGqk/-W1ej_KwQokVc1mkwfIAzo9K6B3AXc6EgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_185306.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--PqS7nQ9dxU/YFlb3AJ_07I/AAAAAAAAGqk/-W1ej_KwQokVc1mkwfIAzo9K6B3AXc6EgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_185306.jpg" /></a></div><p>For large pieces, it's easy to think in terms of a greeting card. But when you get down to the smaller pieces or odd sized pieces, you need to think in terms of other things. For instance, I use a lot of smaller pieces to make ATCs (artist trading cards or coins), bookmarks, or layered embellishments from geometric shapes.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LG80qS_-D40/YFlZqpDw_SI/AAAAAAAAGp0/8BD8JqXe0RMZ0DyK_HFMIDMAVdwzb1ZnQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_190200.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LG80qS_-D40/YFlZqpDw_SI/AAAAAAAAGp0/8BD8JqXe0RMZ0DyK_HFMIDMAVdwzb1ZnQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_190200.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGUyjaIHXzs/YFlZq0Ka40I/AAAAAAAAGp4/lxotmanqiOUozXbHslRHcHztMmLyPKH7wCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_190410.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BGUyjaIHXzs/YFlZq0Ka40I/AAAAAAAAGp4/lxotmanqiOUozXbHslRHcHztMmLyPKH7wCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_190410.jpg" /></a></div><p>The nice things about ATCs is that these could be used on a greeting card as a focal point. But I also keep a lot of my ATCs because I tend to use my favorite papers on them. Bookmarks can be laminated if you keep in mind not to use 3D embellishments or layer too many papers. If it's too thick, it won't laminate well but regular cardstock with a couple layers of patterned paper or stickers work pretty well.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r3yRn_nSiwI/YFlbW1X4xpI/AAAAAAAAGqM/h37W1RYxV_Y_mZvByxuGAmqfKIIt2ld_ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_190642.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r3yRn_nSiwI/YFlbW1X4xpI/AAAAAAAAGqM/h37W1RYxV_Y_mZvByxuGAmqfKIIt2ld_ACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_190642.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U8uRWN2cp9M/YFlbW1jXzNI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/gB2WBiFY1MEw7fp2h0h-f--akDq5_VXBQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_190703.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U8uRWN2cp9M/YFlbW1jXzNI/AAAAAAAAGqQ/gB2WBiFY1MEw7fp2h0h-f--akDq5_VXBQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_190703.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HkKNIpbV-I8/YFlbXAdKypI/AAAAAAAAGqU/scSxFPE6smIFNTS0UPiHM9u-eWY5qF_IgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210311_190713.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HkKNIpbV-I8/YFlbXAdKypI/AAAAAAAAGqU/scSxFPE6smIFNTS0UPiHM9u-eWY5qF_IgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210311_190713.jpg" /></a></div>Now you may wonder why I bother to sort things by color if I'm making backgrounds for cards and small projects. It's easier for me to see what papers I can pair up together. When papers are sorted into the same color family, it's pretty easy to see how many shades, tones, or values of color you have. If you're going to pair multiple colors together, you want to make sure those match between color families. It's also easier for me to match stickers or embellishments that I already have to these colors as well.<div><br /></div><div>So that's the first step with the larger scraps. In the next post, I'll share my secrets of the Motherboard.</div><div><br /></div><div>-Wy</div>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-44332156864613586722021-03-29T21:26:00.000-04:002021-03-29T21:26:05.719-04:00The Color Palette Journal: Cold Stone<p> Hey, I finally got back to my Color Palette Journal! I often forget how much I enjoy working in this journal until I sit down to do a page spread.</p><p>Here is the randomly selected Color Palette:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CuNE8epc01Q/YGJ4pHfIxvI/AAAAAAAAGrI/iJAfJ-7SZGIiPPIQa0pDQg6omExo9IHZgCLcBGAsYHQ/Cold%2BStone.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="400" data-original-width="400" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CuNE8epc01Q/YGJ4pHfIxvI/AAAAAAAAGrI/iJAfJ-7SZGIiPPIQa0pDQg6omExo9IHZgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h400/Cold%2BStone.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />I named it Cold Stone but my journal page doesn't quite reflect that.<p></p><p>My pages began with me pulling out my Distress inks to match some colors in the palette. Dusty Concord and Speckled Egg. I found some solid cardstocks to match the light blue and gray as well as some scraps on my table that matched the purples.</p><p>But my plan didn't come together until I found a scrap of paper in my "scrap file" that was exactly what I needed. The paper was of two deer on a snowy day looking off to the distance. It had the purple tones I wanted as well as the steel blues. I had saved this paper (it was the top of a small notepad) because I did love the image so much. So I knew I had a scene on my hands (again) but what to put in the background? I was onto Spring things, not Winter snow. That's when I decided to look through the stamps sets that I hadn't used yet. I found one from Altenew with a layered cloud, rain and lightning. Yup, lightning struck!</p><p>Here's the page spread without much more exposition.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CJH7IrO4hjk/YGJ7vbJzw1I/AAAAAAAAGrY/wvkt2MrYb0oLHrA_oRmXfV5hyMxiLeL1gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210329_182111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CJH7IrO4hjk/YGJ7vbJzw1I/AAAAAAAAGrY/wvkt2MrYb0oLHrA_oRmXfV5hyMxiLeL1gCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210329_182111.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pi0KOBwXKGw/YGJ7vDUnOoI/AAAAAAAAGrQ/9DbuK-VbcEcHZuMWfhKNdXGtAziXUsp2wCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210329_182121.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pi0KOBwXKGw/YGJ7vDUnOoI/AAAAAAAAGrQ/9DbuK-VbcEcHZuMWfhKNdXGtAziXUsp2wCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210329_182121.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P-3xWxowX7M/YGJ7vKGHfbI/AAAAAAAAGrU/ia_n2yLKal8_htsm5xp1ifb9vNmGCXEbACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210329_182126.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P-3xWxowX7M/YGJ7vKGHfbI/AAAAAAAAGrU/ia_n2yLKal8_htsm5xp1ifb9vNmGCXEbACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210329_182126.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MSK5goK6MqY/YGJ7wfNISdI/AAAAAAAAGrc/35MpCj-JytQRCIwE-5wH_QapUtmCDm33QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210329_182136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MSK5goK6MqY/YGJ7wfNISdI/AAAAAAAAGrc/35MpCj-JytQRCIwE-5wH_QapUtmCDm33QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210329_182136.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Overall, I really like it. They have a challenge going on over on their <a href="http://blog.dare2bartzy.com/march-challenge-anything-goes-3/" target="_blank">blog</a> and I decided to link up a project I got done with some of their newest stamps and papers. (Their paper is the BEST. It's double sided and thick enough to use in interactive cards without resorting to cardstock. It die cuts or punches very well. For this paper addict, this is the good stuff.)</p><p>Anyway, here's a card I made with my newest favorite paper collection and stamp set.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C7lCbgPe3RM/YEl6NN7XUbI/AAAAAAAAGoA/AjEWk-zs5_AtBnxi0_07YDpklGr1kLIKgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2551/20210309_171446.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1233" data-original-width="2551" height="310" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C7lCbgPe3RM/YEl6NN7XUbI/AAAAAAAAGoA/AjEWk-zs5_AtBnxi0_07YDpklGr1kLIKgCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h310/20210309_171446.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ngLudKbP7gE/YEl3vXjLaiI/AAAAAAAAGns/zyZHeES6eqEhtkL9-PrIo6w9WNA9FdA1gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210309_171459.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ngLudKbP7gE/YEl3vXjLaiI/AAAAAAAAGns/zyZHeES6eqEhtkL9-PrIo6w9WNA9FdA1gCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210309_171459.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>I made up a slimline card. Here in NY, it's still winter. But the past few days have been above freezing so that means: Spring is coming! </p><p>So the inspiration for my journal was to take these Autumn colors and turn them into Spring.</p><p>Here's the Color Palette that was randomly selected from my Pinterest board:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6ksbG6KKRlw/YDb0m2AoElI/AAAAAAAAGmg/w9njFp3HrT0XX6riST9ZjJ1r6GAtjw5LgCLcBGAsYHQ/Warmth.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="510" data-original-width="458" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6ksbG6KKRlw/YDb0m2AoElI/AAAAAAAAGmg/w9njFp3HrT0XX6riST9ZjJ1r6GAtjw5LgCLcBGAsYHQ/w288-h320/Warmth.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><p></p><p>My inspiration came as I was art journaling (a different journal) and looking through my large stencils. I found an old stencil that was spring and Easter themed. It's one of those stencils that you were supposed to use to draw shapes. It had all kinds of flower petals and leaves, grass, a couple bunnies, an egg, and a carrot. Yuppers...carrots are orange. And I could use the browns for chocolate bunnies. </p><p>So here's what it turned out to be:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QP79l0o4Fd0/YDb4DMCXT3I/AAAAAAAAGmo/5RxWYnjJVsoN_lrG_3ibyHCGJaygr8PuQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_180545.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QP79l0o4Fd0/YDb4DMCXT3I/AAAAAAAAGmo/5RxWYnjJVsoN_lrG_3ibyHCGJaygr8PuQCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210224_180545.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8SqsrMJDNnw/YDb4WltRlJI/AAAAAAAAGmw/iyqT3l8IC5kILyA1d3cYXe0BDCVFW6uewCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_175516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1375" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8SqsrMJDNnw/YDb4WltRlJI/AAAAAAAAGmw/iyqT3l8IC5kILyA1d3cYXe0BDCVFW6uewCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210224_175516.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xWkOf7TeyV4/YDb4W74FCrI/AAAAAAAAGm0/23BY1tLOD-g4XIra8da6sZ-lSesgU2ZLACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_175551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1878" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xWkOf7TeyV4/YDb4W74FCrI/AAAAAAAAGm0/23BY1tLOD-g4XIra8da6sZ-lSesgU2ZLACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210224_175551.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZC34Om0L1Yg/YDb4XvaxaXI/AAAAAAAAGm4/6tMnyzTqcHQu1ws-0Kn6aFvkfA6eoz6jQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_180610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZC34Om0L1Yg/YDb4XvaxaXI/AAAAAAAAGm4/6tMnyzTqcHQu1ws-0Kn6aFvkfA6eoz6jQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210224_180610.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yTrVfwoQERs/YDb4Yh5jmuI/AAAAAAAAGnA/k-Tl2Z9mVn0Psu-ICIoijJC-lkRLcBIEgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_180625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yTrVfwoQERs/YDb4Yh5jmuI/AAAAAAAAGnA/k-Tl2Z9mVn0Psu-ICIoijJC-lkRLcBIEgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210224_180625.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qfztJcpJUOc/YDb4YLYdAOI/AAAAAAAAGm8/0XuEXZBGGVY53c6keB7J7YBufSr93sbvwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210224_180634.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1436" data-original-width="2048" height="448" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qfztJcpJUOc/YDb4YLYdAOI/AAAAAAAAGm8/0XuEXZBGGVY53c6keB7J7YBufSr93sbvwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h448/20210224_180634.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>The page seems a bit plain and bare of pattern but I do like it. I had to add a little yellow Peep in with my chocolate bunnies. It's another scene which is a common theme in this journal. Still, this journal is one of my favorites.</p><p>So I'm off to randomly select another Color Palette from the 200+ pins on my Pinterest Board. Let's see what I get for next time!</p><p>-Wy</p><p></p>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-45993472101020593482021-02-14T20:28:00.001-05:002021-02-14T20:28:07.524-05:00Color Palette Journal: Spring Tones<p> I'm back playing in the Color Palette Journal!</p><p>This palette seems familiar and I think I may have done it before...or one that is very similar. In flipping through my journal, I see that my panda page used the same colors basically. But I don't mind.</p><p>So here's the current palette:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p923HT386hA/YCnKhpzE-DI/AAAAAAAAGlY/mYDYXDFuEFckLhDLIGJr4Kd_4syxBAnEACLcBGAsYHQ/Spring%2BTones.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="381" data-original-width="420" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-p923HT386hA/YCnKhpzE-DI/AAAAAAAAGlY/mYDYXDFuEFckLhDLIGJr4Kd_4syxBAnEACLcBGAsYHQ/Spring%2BTones.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>Called Spring Tones, I like the cool blue-greens and the pure pinks. A touch of gray never hurt.<p></p><p>So here's what I did with it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LMhLe98r8Pg/YCnLN1YrRWI/AAAAAAAAGlk/aJNfmf0oWP8PMwGOhxr9AA8d36n5Z7sIgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210214_191850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LMhLe98r8Pg/YCnLN1YrRWI/AAAAAAAAGlk/aJNfmf0oWP8PMwGOhxr9AA8d36n5Z7sIgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20210214_191850.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ypxP0BU3lIM/YCnLN7FxhbI/AAAAAAAAGlg/1aReQsvYZ5oYqs4BVFYYaF2idqD2KWXOQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210214_191857.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ypxP0BU3lIM/YCnLN7FxhbI/AAAAAAAAGlg/1aReQsvYZ5oYqs4BVFYYaF2idqD2KWXOQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20210214_191857.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QFR0H45-36I/YCnLN8RFWtI/AAAAAAAAGlo/pfqgzeIgqLsLNuoe1mQ_oxgdwo__Mt_ygCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210214_191905.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QFR0H45-36I/YCnLN8RFWtI/AAAAAAAAGlo/pfqgzeIgqLsLNuoe1mQ_oxgdwo__Mt_ygCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210214_191905.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>I've been doing a lot of scenes lately and decided to stick with that as I enjoy doing them. I've also wanted to do some birds like I've seen in <a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/AmberKCreative" target="_blank">Amber K. Creative youtube videos.<br /></a><p></p><div style="text-align: left;">I also got a new background stamp of birch trees. I've been wanting a stamp like this because I have a stencil of birch trees that I love. The problem is that I want the stencil to be in the reverse; in essence a stamp image. This one is pretty dang close.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I like how it came out and it satisfied a lot of art cravings this time.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I'll be doing my random draw from my Color Palette Pinterest board soon for my next spread! I'm kinda hoping for bright colors this time!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Stay safe.</div><div style="text-align: left;">-Wy</div><br /><p></p>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-10322594454264663512021-02-03T22:22:00.000-05:002021-02-03T22:22:23.346-05:00Color Palette Journal: Reflection<p> I've finally done another page in my Color Palette Journal. I've had the idea for a while but never quite got around to executing it. </p><p>My Color Palette Journal is inspired by my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/adkwyvern/color-palettes/" target="_blank">Color Palette Pinterest Board</a>. I randomly choose a palette and do a page in this particular journal with those colors. I may or may not be inspired by the photo attached with the palette. Once a palette is done in my journal, I blog it and remove the palette from my Pinterest Board so I will not repeat the exact same palette. <i>(I do have very similar palettes on the board with different photos. Those stay.)</i> </p><p>So this was the inspirational Color Palette this time. Simply called: Reflection.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-72Lhwyk2Xl4/YBtkE4GLDWI/AAAAAAAAGkg/KzgHYmi_JRMH7-uHxxKgFM08dJTsw42rACLcBGAsYHQ/Reflection.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="845" data-original-width="564" height="640" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-72Lhwyk2Xl4/YBtkE4GLDWI/AAAAAAAAGkg/KzgHYmi_JRMH7-uHxxKgFM08dJTsw42rACLcBGAsYHQ/w427-h640/Reflection.jpg" width="427" /></a></div><br />I have done artworks of lotus and water lilies in the past so I was not anxious to do one again. I have also experimented with mirror images and didn't think I wanted to take that route. So my journal page ended up being a simple theme I had wanted to add to the journal using these colors. The most challenging part of this palette was the lack of green. I did a scene and found it hard to work around the green/blue combo that I typically use for a landscape.<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-umxee3nC0ds/YBtlVB8jRrI/AAAAAAAAGkw/kJqslT4sRtswYifPCNulISM2Dg6y202OACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210203_200933.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-umxee3nC0ds/YBtlVB8jRrI/AAAAAAAAGkw/kJqslT4sRtswYifPCNulISM2Dg6y202OACLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/20210203_200933.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TwpK6KRPaac/YBtlVE6uQyI/AAAAAAAAGks/IIFNqkmgk1YY8DMsiHOwENhMdIXrvd2AACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210203_200943.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TwpK6KRPaac/YBtlVE6uQyI/AAAAAAAAGks/IIFNqkmgk1YY8DMsiHOwENhMdIXrvd2AACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20210203_200943.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1XNEiTmg2zQ/YBtlT8ZIe8I/AAAAAAAAGko/NAoONJ9dVfUGb4gryO44co6e4skyy2BlwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20210203_200950.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1583" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1XNEiTmg2zQ/YBtlT8ZIe8I/AAAAAAAAGko/NAoONJ9dVfUGb4gryO44co6e4skyy2BlwCLcBGAsYHQ/w309-h400/20210203_200950.jpg" width="309" /></a></div><br /><p>I changed my mind about where the "color" would go. I was going to have black dragons and a twilight background featuring the lighter purple color. I ditched the idea because the dragon stamps would lose their details. (Stamps and castle die-cut by Lawn Fawn.)</p><p>I rather like how this turned out. I also flipped through this journal as I hadn't looked at it in awhile. Once it's finished, I think I'll be making a video flip-through of it as I really like most of the pages. Don't hold your breath; I still have plenty of pages to complete!</p><p>Cheers to more creativity this year!</p><p>-Wy</p>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-59625120117393524782021-01-31T19:01:00.000-05:002021-01-31T19:01:00.071-05:00Quick Journal Flip<p> The constant motion of life has swept me away from the blog. But now that February is upon us, I will attempt to add more content. I often lose my path during December and January so thank you for your patience.</p><p>Here's what I have accomplished amidst all the crap I haven't finished. I did a Dyalog journal for the Holidays. From Thanksgiving through New Year's. Here's a little flip through of it.</p><p>It is what it is. My main goal was to finish it and use up some Christmas themed stickers and ephemera I had in my stash for a long time. Mission accomplished. I'm only just learning the video side of things and this was filmed on my phone. It's a learning process there, too.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VhPrrXCLyFw" width="320" youtube-src-id="VhPrrXCLyFw"></iframe></div><br /><p>If you're wondering about my YouTube channel, it's not anything I'm pursuing right now. I'm basically using it to upload longer video clips to this blog and elsewhere. When I feel more comfortable with the video process, I may be uploading more content there. I'm hoping to film at least one thing a month and upload it, just to get comfortable with the process. Then, I may start a YouTube channel under my brand name. <i>(Hey, ya gotta have goals, right?)</i></p><p>I often lose my motivation during February so I hope you'll stick with me this year. Crossing my fingers it will be better than the last.</p><p>Cheers,</p><p>Wyvern</p>Wyvernhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16279061958788080786noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30920410.post-50059177448210204252020-10-31T06:00:00.001-04:002020-10-31T06:00:02.588-04:00Annabel Lee: Edgar Allan Poe Series<p> Last year, I brainstormed a bunch of ideas for the works of Edgar Allan Poe. I hashed through a few of them so I'd have a starting point if I got behind the 8-ball come October. Guess what? Behind the 8-ball!</p><p>Out of the three ideas I started, I chose the poem, "Annabel Lee". I felt that I would be able to work this into the "collection" with relative ease. I had been trying to keep my works within a certain color way and I had not yet done blue. The references in this poem to the sea inspired me that way.</p><p>While the year 2020 certainly lent itself to be the year of the "Red Death", I didn't have that one fleshed out enough to get it done for October. But I may work on it now that my Halloween projects are completed and I am not yet inspired for Christmas. </p><p>Here's what I made:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4TSPhV34Cvo/X5olP4mc1AI/AAAAAAAAGh8/85xu24HK26YDWW2alxcFjfDTq6nmAgfiACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201026_142810.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1588" data-original-width="2048" height="310" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4TSPhV34Cvo/X5olP4mc1AI/AAAAAAAAGh8/85xu24HK26YDWW2alxcFjfDTq6nmAgfiACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h310/20201026_142810.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>If you recall, I do have a few parameters that I try to meet in each of these canvases in order to keep them somewhat cohesive. They all must display the title, they all must have a picture of Poe, they all must have a torn paper background (mostly). I have always wanted to make one: a Halloween Tree or a Pumpkin Tree but it seemed too far out of my skill set. I have tried to draw them or make one on a 2-D canvas but they never quite satisfied my vision.</p><p>I have come very close this year. I won't bore you with a lot of details on this one. I took a stick and added wire and washi tape to make extra branches. I added lights. I added pumpkins and small paper cut details. The base is upcycled from something that was being trashed. The boys are paper dolls from Tim Holtz and the old man is a cut out rubber stamp image. That old man is Moundshroud carved by hand by Jackbear Stamps. This image is taken from the 1st edition of The Halloween Tree that was illustrated by Joseph Mugnaini.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jjQBB6y4PB0/X5Toc-bJA_I/AAAAAAAAGf8/hXChmO_px4Et0A_Omq_6yw09UhC-Nb6bwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134752_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jjQBB6y4PB0/X5Toc-bJA_I/AAAAAAAAGf8/hXChmO_px4Et0A_Omq_6yw09UhC-Nb6bwCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20201019_134752_HDR.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p>I took photos with a piece of my artwork behind it as well as a simple "bare" background. (The original artwork is called "Moonshine".) Some details show up better against the dark, some better against the light. Enjoy the photos.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oa4NjbOmYXs/X5TpTnmQeTI/AAAAAAAAGgM/E8mih7SFVcIl5nTqKDJxt3di3shP9nNbwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134718.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oa4NjbOmYXs/X5TpTnmQeTI/AAAAAAAAGgM/E8mih7SFVcIl5nTqKDJxt3di3shP9nNbwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20201019_134718.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24A9OZpk3Mg/X5TpTmUaIDI/AAAAAAAAGgE/53hzN0Vks6sZdhDq4nITLZwrZezTqrvzwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134725.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-24A9OZpk3Mg/X5TpTmUaIDI/AAAAAAAAGgE/53hzN0Vks6sZdhDq4nITLZwrZezTqrvzwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20201019_134725.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7-Yme6aU9WM/X5TpTuNJiFI/AAAAAAAAGgI/VEkOdWFchaQpc4X0Xro-CFNq0qFUR20-wCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134734.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7-Yme6aU9WM/X5TpTuNJiFI/AAAAAAAAGgI/VEkOdWFchaQpc4X0Xro-CFNq0qFUR20-wCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20201019_134734.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n3saHki_V84/X5TpU3nsncI/AAAAAAAAGgQ/zyICRNDm8t4IkOidcSEQtqKN-IECdueTACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1450" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n3saHki_V84/X5TpU3nsncI/AAAAAAAAGgQ/zyICRNDm8t4IkOidcSEQtqKN-IECdueTACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20201019_134744.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V0xM5VyS4kg/X5Tp_4F5SxI/AAAAAAAAGgk/q6acUciRUA0fMEz-QS1iwdciKfNyoRL1gCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134824.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V0xM5VyS4kg/X5Tp_4F5SxI/AAAAAAAAGgk/q6acUciRUA0fMEz-QS1iwdciKfNyoRL1gCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20201019_134824.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hXLv45sALA8/X5Tp_86-vzI/AAAAAAAAGgo/DrdVDj6c_kkAhjYurX70ctN5w-iqobzOgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20201019_134831.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hXLv45sALA8/X5Tp_86-vzI/AAAAAAAAGgo/DrdVDj6c_kkAhjYurX70ctN5w-iqobzOgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20201019_134831.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>Remember what I told you? My original idea, the first idea, was to make Edgar Allan Poe's gravesite atop a stack of books. Poe may or may not be buried in this little graveyard but I kept the idea of using a stack of books. It's the closest I've gotten to doing another altered book in a long time so I'm counting it as a goal accomplished! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qrR4PnJ7jzU/X442aGoPmgI/AAAAAAAAGa8/W4RAomJv1FIN7PRgXSloq7pu0nmXrJB4ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172117_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1799" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qrR4PnJ7jzU/X442aGoPmgI/AAAAAAAAGa8/W4RAomJv1FIN7PRgXSloq7pu0nmXrJB4ACLcBGAsYHQ/w562-h640/20200901_172117_HDR.jpg" width="562" /></a></div><br /><p><b><u>Ghosts in the Graveyard</u></b>: A couple years ago I set up a party scape with a stack of books with titles that I thought reflected the Halloween mood. I had about 5 or 6 of them and I thought at the time of attaching them all together to make a permanent arrangement. Since I never got around to it, I decided to take from that stack and use a few for this display.</p><p>I won't take you through every little step but I'll try to point out a few things through the photos of the finished project. I relied heavily on items from Tim Holtz's Halloween lines of Ideaology. These are a variety of items some from my stash; some I bought brand new this year. My vision for the graveyard really took off when I realized the Metal Fence fit "just so" on the top book I was using for my base.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d9o-6auchwE/X444C608Y8I/AAAAAAAAGbQ/8FKdPeiaovsUCQ5chmgZ6nZ82xb2t2LAQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d9o-6auchwE/X444C608Y8I/AAAAAAAAGbQ/8FKdPeiaovsUCQ5chmgZ6nZ82xb2t2LAQCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/20200901_172215.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>This photo gives a good depiction of the graveyard. I covered the book with a sheet of paper from Tim Holtz's Abandoned stash. <i>(So happy that I finally got my hands on this paper stash! It is mesmerizing how much pattern and color is in it. Truly a sheet for any project.)</i> Those rocks are some kind of foam bead that I had in my stash and never used. Its a good filler when you're attaching large items with texture paste as it fills in the gaps. I just spread on the texture paste and lightly pressed these into it. Mummy cloth adds a bit of light fog around the edges and the brush bottle trees in the back were sprayed with several different shades of ink to fit my color palette. While I used some Evergreen Bough, Shaded Lilac, and Gathered Twigs (Distress stain), my main color was Whale Watch Blue from Lindy's. This cold blue-gray color was exactly what I wanted to reflect a foggy chilly Halloween night. I sprayed the texture paste and foam beads with this color and the mummy cloth to match.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H-lYwB8WMkw/X444CR0RuAI/AAAAAAAAGbM/eRDYsAiXfDUx8MORjExrogsHx4aIg98_QCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172253.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H-lYwB8WMkw/X444CR0RuAI/AAAAAAAAGbM/eRDYsAiXfDUx8MORjExrogsHx4aIg98_QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172253.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q_ll8EBNgyw/X444Ccx3icI/AAAAAAAAGbI/v1B_8xm7Z54b9zc0KSGJh8tzhMqNYz0GQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172348_Burst01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q_ll8EBNgyw/X444Ccx3icI/AAAAAAAAGbI/v1B_8xm7Z54b9zc0KSGJh8tzhMqNYz0GQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172348_Burst01.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>I added details to the tombstones in the front. I placed a creepy eye on one and set a skull beside the other. I added small ruby rhinestones into the skulls eyes, the only deviation from my washed out color palette. If you look closely at the gravestones in the back row, just before the trees, they may seem familiar. I used old chess pieces. I took the black ones and gave them a little coat of gray paint then added little splotches of black to make them seem old and weathered. I colored a pearl with purple alcohol ink to set atop the rook to resemble a gazing ball.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_TfjwOvpl7U/X44-AKIdaEI/AAAAAAAAGbk/6Dey3ja903wtmrN-GmrFrhbSVkBl_01HgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_TfjwOvpl7U/X44-AKIdaEI/AAAAAAAAGbk/6Dey3ja903wtmrN-GmrFrhbSVkBl_01HgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172233.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ljUUYEgHL_k/X44-AW7LGwI/AAAAAAAAGbo/hMJYAKIZn3swg71Dozawt6onYbKULWqcwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172244.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ljUUYEgHL_k/X44-AW7LGwI/AAAAAAAAGbo/hMJYAKIZn3swg71Dozawt6onYbKULWqcwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172244.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4HWxt1SoSFA/X44-AUTIeoI/AAAAAAAAGbs/HeqcYAwK-f0YgWynJXRHiZMHzDw_kj6mQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172259.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4HWxt1SoSFA/X44-AUTIeoI/AAAAAAAAGbs/HeqcYAwK-f0YgWynJXRHiZMHzDw_kj6mQCLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20200901_172259.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p>I added the ghosts after staring at it awhile and deciding I wanted a vertical element. So I carved out the bottom book just enough to fit in the smallest of vignette boxes. Now because no one was going to be opening this book, I could make the cuts sloppy and just hide the edge with paper. The zombie hand <i>(that I had to buy as it came in the pack with the tombstones)</i> made a perfect drawer pull. <i>(Though I admit that at a distance, this zombie hand looks like it's giving me the finger!)</i> The items in the drawer are all that remains of the Edgar Allan Poe idea. I thought, "if I went through a secret drawer in Poe's office, what might I find?" None of these items are glued down so they can be removed from the drawer and examined. I wonder what the skeleton key unlocks?</p><p>So what's the best part about this project? When I saw that these colored lights were available, I immediately bought 2 sets. I had not invested in the regular tiny lights because I thought they'd be hard to incorporate into vignette boxes...you'd have to drill a hole in the back to put the wire through...I'm not that handy. But knowing that there was no "back" to this project...no walls so to speak; it would be relatively easy to rig the string of lights. The battery pack sits in it's own little paper box that is attached to the top book as shown. I used a whole strand of lights and taped it down with some washi tape that was reinforced with collage medium. That held the wire down so that I could then cover them with the stained mummy cloth and glue the cloth down around the lights to also keep them in place. I think I now want to add lights to everything!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gxf4e6daKxs/X45E3zrx83I/AAAAAAAAGc4/UAobAYU0VvwBSSct0Wr36JmrC1KfotMQACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172454.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gxf4e6daKxs/X45E3zrx83I/AAAAAAAAGc4/UAobAYU0VvwBSSct0Wr36JmrC1KfotMQACLcBGAsYHQ/w300-h400/20200901_172454.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><p>I have added this scene to my newly created "Halloween nook" in my craft space and it will stay up year round along with many of my other altered projects. </p><p>Thanks for hanging with me to the end!</p><p>Stay safe out there! I so wanted to make my own that it is this very project that forced me to purchase Halloween items I did not have in my stash. <i>(Oh the hardship!) EDIT: The inspiration was done by Emma Williams from 2019. It didn't look like I remembered it and that's probably for the best. Her project can be found at Tim Holtz' blog under "2019 ideaology Halloween". </i></p><p>Not much to report on this project. It's an ode to Tim Holtz and his wonderful Halloween ideaology line. The idea was not my own. Enjoy the photos!</p><p><i>In other news, I have not yet done ONE prompt for Inktober(TM). I have adjusted my goals accordingly. So that was the main purpose of this project. I was experimenting with working with the tiny lights (Tim Holtz; Ideaology). When adding lights to things, you need to plan ahead if you want to conceal the "wiring" and have a place for the battery compartment. Sometimes, it's too much planning for me when I just want to sit down and make a project.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o1BBCm-vsO0/X3aC52exPDI/AAAAAAAAGXw/WqCZmnZeTigU9cXXa9qSH5-T32HbPNJLACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172944.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o1BBCm-vsO0/X3aC52exPDI/AAAAAAAAGXw/WqCZmnZeTigU9cXXa9qSH5-T32HbPNJLACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172944.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ytPUvzy_MzA/X3aC5ou9nyI/AAAAAAAAGXs/QY3Za8CPdksnzWGgjfmNh2tsgsWXkZraACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172959_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ytPUvzy_MzA/X3aC5ou9nyI/AAAAAAAAGXs/QY3Za8CPdksnzWGgjfmNh2tsgsWXkZraACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/20200901_172959_HDR.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>I selected this shadowbox to use because it already had some open tabs in it. <i>(From Alpha Stamps, the tabs are meant to hold shelves within the box. I left the shelves out to utilize the holes.)</i> This allowed me to put the battery box on the back without having to worry about drilling a hole or something. I made the little holder for the battery out of thick cardstock.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uR7i50ukgt0/X3aD28olaGI/AAAAAAAAGX8/MiNwzy2PUJguNlg6sTaHNtQ_eAR6OezeACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200901_172908.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1859" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uR7i50ukgt0/X3aD28olaGI/AAAAAAAAGX8/MiNwzy2PUJguNlg6sTaHNtQ_eAR6OezeACLcBGAsYHQ/w363-h400/20200901_172908.jpg" width="363" /></a></div><br /> It's hard for me to get a good photo of it all lit up as when I dim the lights, you can't really see the elements. <i>(I'll try to improve for future projects. Hint, hint.)</i> The purple tiny lights are much more diffuse and light up the vellum scene with a wonderfully eerie glow.<p></p><p>I'm not sure I'm "in love" with this piece but it was fun to make. I do like the vellum scene, not so much the collage I did on the frame. Certainly it's a cool display on my book shelves. </p><p>I will be posting inconsistently this year. No set structure or dates for new posts. I'm winging it as we all have during 2020; why should October be different? Follow my Facebook page to keep abreast of new posts and projects. I will also be sharing any Inktober(TM) prompts that I attempt. <i>(Just a note that I don't plan on completing it this year. I'm already off to a bad start on Day One and it's a prompt I don't consider too challenging. Ugh.)</i></p><p>So the word for this October will be Inconsistent. </p><p>Hang in there wherever you are. I have a few more in various stages of completion and a whole lot that are still ideas in my head. </p><p>So I decided not to throw any pressure on myself this year. October will be what it is. I will share as many projects as possible as I get them done. Some will be my assemblages but most will probably be small art journal pages or tags or cards. I haven't yet done my annual Edgar Allan Poe 8 X 10 canvas but it is in the priority chart.</p><p>In the meantime, please head over to my <a href="www.etsy.com/shop/ChocolateDragonPaper" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a> if you are looking for some wall décor this year. A little Halloween fun to change up the season. The canvases listed are pieces that I have shared here on the blog in past posts. Keep checking back to the shop as I will be adding more items as I get photos taken. Mostly Halloween cards but I may have a few more small canvases that I have yet to locate. </p><p>Here's a few photos of what's over there and you can find more detailed photos at the store.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xPTtMGsMYsc/W5h8NEqmjDI/AAAAAAAAE7I/QT8y7vaaGeAppgD-oX4Ss2asdY_5oWr1ACPcBGAYYCw/s2048/DSC04473.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xPTtMGsMYsc/W5h8NEqmjDI/AAAAAAAAE7I/QT8y7vaaGeAppgD-oX4Ss2asdY_5oWr1ACPcBGAYYCw/w300-h400/DSC04473.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The WiccaPedia is an altered configuration book dedicated to the various types of witches in the world.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2tUjl_lFL7Q/W5h_fmev9FI/AAAAAAAAE8E/klFYX-pFKSMDtmKBluw7hpaLHgKHR3XWACPcBGAYYCw/s2048/DSC04479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2tUjl_lFL7Q/W5h_fmev9FI/AAAAAAAAE8E/klFYX-pFKSMDtmKBluw7hpaLHgKHR3XWACPcBGAYYCw/s320/DSC04479.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lY2xlfhQnP8/W5sNVDOKm4I/AAAAAAAAE98/tTBiU29CN5IxAp_0CL6QC57Zl3y_D4X3ACPcBGAYYCw/s2048/DSC04493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lY2xlfhQnP8/W5sNVDOKm4I/AAAAAAAAE98/tTBiU29CN5IxAp_0CL6QC57Zl3y_D4X3ACPcBGAYYCw/s320/DSC04493.JPG" /></a></div><div>Small framed canvas measures about 5 X 7.
