Red Carpet Studio Challenge #63: Love, Actually
I've never actually seen this movie: Love, Acutally. I'm not one for chick flicks, romantic comedies, romance in general. So needless to say, I have always had a problem making Valentine's and Love related cards. It's about this time of year when I have a gut-wrenching, Anti-Valentine feeling and the only thing that pulls me through it is all the CHOCOLATE that seems to be everywhere!
Red Carpet Studios has posted our next Challenge and yup, you guessed it...it's all about my Achilles heel!
The Challenge: Create a project featuring something you love. Do you have a special somebody? Do you love Valentine's Day paper? Is there a place you love to visit?

Dark Hearts: It started with an experiment of Scor-Tape. I have the 2" width and I attached it to a scrap piece of cardstock then peeled off the backing to expose the adhesive. Then, I just poured embossing powder (Midnight Violet Obsidian by Lindy's Stamp Gang) over it and heat set it. Scor-Tape is heat resistant so it stands up to the embossing temperature without losing it's stick. I just punched and cut out the heart shapes from there!
I added the black iridescent rhinestones to torn black paper for the "traditional" bit of bling I feel every Valentine's card should have. I outlined my hearts with a white pen to give it a sketchy look.
I stamped the "Love You" banner (Stampin' Up, Itty Bitty Banners) just on the background as I didn't want it to stand out. The background is another experiment. It's watercolor paper that was used as a mop up sheet for my art journal. The stencil is Gears from The Crafter's Workshop. It's a layering of Dylusion sprays (London Blue, Bubblegum pink, and maybe Cherry Pie) and then a layering of white Gesso over the top to lighten it. I think. I often forget how mop up sheets are made and they are just an afterthought while I work on a different project...sooooo I never intend to make them, really.
When I decided to use this sheet I just added the specks of purple paint and the circles stamped with a bottle cap.
This was quite a successful card for me as I think it has the "mixed media" feel I want in my cards. So happy I aspired to the Challenge!

The background was attached to a black card (Coredinations) with gel medium. I wanted a heavier glue as the watercolor paper had warped and I wanted it to stay attached to my card base! This was quite a successful card for me as I think it has the "mixed media" feel I want in my cards. So happy I aspired to the Challenge!
