Red Carpet Studio: Snow Buddies Challenge

For my very first challenge with Red Carpet Studio I created this card. The movie inspiration is Snow Buddies, that Disney flick with the all the cute little puppies. In this movie, they end up in Alaska helping out as a sled dog team. The theme for the challenge is to use snowflakes! (For all the details for the challenge, go HERE.)

There's nothing quite like the delicate beauty of snowflakes. But I was inspired by the movie to go back to my childhood, back to those days before die-cuts and fancy laser stickers, back to when I cut out my own snowflakes for my mom to hang or tape in the windows and doors of our house. My siblings and I spent many a wintery afternoon, cutting out plain white paper in the shapes of snowflakes. So my cards features a few hand cut creations.

The process as to how I created this card follows. If you're inspired to make your own project with snowflakes, be sure to take a quick photo and post it with Red Carpet Studio. I'd love to see what you create!

Snow Buddies Snowflake Card:
I started with a folded blank card (6.5" X 5") and stuck a piece of silver paper to the inside front of the card. Using my Creative Memories circle cutter, I cut out a 3.5" circle from the middle. I folded that panel in half so that the silver paper would show. (For advanced card makers, you're making a Z-fold card.)

The inside of the card is decorated with snowflake foil paper (Hot Off the Press), a stamped sentiment (Stampin Up!), and a hand cut snowflake that was colored with Distress Ink. The large snowflake was cut out of the circle that was taken out of the middle of the card front. Distress Ink in two colors (Broken China and Peacock Feathers) were sponged over the cardstock then a touch of shimmer was added with a fine spray of a homemade Perfect Pearls mist. (You can't see much shimmer in the photo, sorry!)

The small snowflakes were cut from 1 3/8" circles of white copy paper. The blue circles behind them measure the same. I took a thread of DMC floss (lt blue) and secured it to the back of the fold with washi tape. Make sure the thread is taut or your snowflakes will sag! Using Aleene's craft glue, I attached the white snowflake to the thread and then to the blue circle so the thread is sandwiched between the papers. A small jewel Dazzle (Hot Off the Press, paperwishes.com) was added to the center of each.

Finishing touches: I added some corner stickers of laser cut snowflakes that were getting old in my stash. They were from Creative Memories. I cut out the Stampin Up! sentiment (Beautiful Season set) from white cardstock and inked the edges with some blue pigment ink.

This card was so fun to make and took me back to those days of cutting out snowflakes for decorations! It's meant to be a stand-up display card and the circles turn gently in a waft of cool air, just like real snowflakes.
Happy New Year!

I love your card. I love the that the snowflake free hangs to "turn gently in a waft of cool air" :) I love even more that you went old school and had cut your snowflakes! Totally original ;)

  2. Fabulous card using all of these snowflakes! So pretty with them "falling" thru the center of the card! So fun and clever, too!
